Poll: Netanyahu's opposition camp leads with 67 seats against 49 for the ruling coalition

An Israeli opinion poll showed on Monday that the camp opposing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leads with 67 out of 120 seats in the Knesset, compared to 49 seats for the ruling coalition, two weeks before the elections scheduled for October 27.

According to the poll published by the Hebrew "Channel 12", the parties classified within the camp opposing Netanyahu won 67 seats, including 54 for Zionist parties and 13 for Arab parties, against 49 seats for the ruling coalition, while what the channel described as the "third camp" won 4 seats.

It is worth noting that forming a government requires obtaining at least 61 seats in the Knesset.

The poll was conducted on October 12 on a representative sample of 509 people aged 18 and over, with a maximum margin of error of 4.4 percentage points.

At the party level, the "Yashar" party, led by Gadi Eisenkot, topped the poll results with 23 seats, compared to 20 for the "Likud" party, led by Netanyahu, which fell by one seat compared to the channel's previous poll.

The "Ma'an" party, led by Naftali Bennett, maintained 13 seats, while the "Democrats" party, led by Yair Golan, and "Yisrael Beiteinu," led by Avigdor Liberman, won 9 seats each.

The "Joint List," led by Yousef Jabareen, won 8 seats, the same number obtained by both the Haredi "Shas" party, led by Aryeh Deri, and the "Otzma Yehudit" (Jewish Power) party, led by Itamar Ben-Gvir.

The "United Torah Judaism" party, led by Yaakov Asher, won 7 seats, while the "Religious Zionism and Identity" alliance, led by Bezalel Smotrich and Moshe Feiglin, won 6 seats.

As for the "United Arab List," led by Mansour Abbas, it won 5 seats, bringing the total representation of Arab lists to 13 seats.

The "Reserve Soldiers - Economic" list, led by Yoaz Hendel and Yaron Zelekha, also won 4 seats.

Eisenkot outperforms Netanyahu for premiership

In a question in the poll regarding the most suitable person to assume the premiership, Eisenkot led Netanyahu by 45 percent to 35 percent, widening the gap between them to 10 percentage points, after it was 3 points in the previous poll.

Bennett also led Netanyahu by one percentage point, obtaining 37 percent compared to 36 percent for the Prime Minister.

Conversely, Netanyahu led Liberman by 35 percent to 27 percent, but the gap between them narrowed to 8 points after reaching 17 points in the previous poll.

The channel stated that about 8 percent of those surveyed have not yet decided who they will vote for in the upcoming elections.

Netanyahu has headed the current government since late December 2022, in a coalition described as the most right-wing in Israel's history.
