Poll: Netanyahu's camp loses two seats and drops to 51 against 55 for Eisenkot

A poll by the Hebrew Channel 12, the results of which were published on Wednesday, 6 days before the elections, showed that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's camp lost two seats, dropping to 51 seats, compared to 55 seats for the camp of "Yashar" party leader Gadi Eisenkot.

Eisenkot also led in preferences for prime minister with 44 percent against 33 percent for Netanyahu.

According to the poll, Netanyahu's camp lost two seats compared to the last poll, when it obtained 53 seats.

Despite the lead of Eisenkot's camp, neither camp possesses the 61-seat majority needed to form a government out of the 120 seats in the Knesset.

The poll showed that Eisenkot continues to lead Netanyahu on the question of the most suitable personality for prime minister, as the former received the support of 44 percent of those surveyed, down from 45 percent in the previous poll, compared to 33 percent for Netanyahu, which is the same percentage he received in the last poll.

The percentage of those who answered "I don't know" rose from 5 percent to 6 percent, while 17 percent answered "neither of them."

Netanyahu also narrowed the gap with "Ma'an" party leader Naftali Bennett, despite the latter's continued lead, as 40 percent of participants prefer Bennett as prime minister (compared to 39 percent in the previous poll), while 37 percent prefer Netanyahu (up from 34 percent in the previous poll), while 18 percent answered "neither of them," and 5 percent said "I don't know."

At the party level, the "Yashar" party led by Eisenkot came in first place by obtaining 23 seats, followed by the "Likud" party led by Netanyahu, which would obtain 19 seats (a decrease of two seats compared to the previous poll).

The "Ma'an" party led by Naftali Bennett continues its rise, reaching 15 seats, an increase of one seat from the last poll.

At the same time, the "Amkha Yisrael" party led by Ofer Winter managed to cross the threshold, obtaining 4 seats.

According to the poll, the opposition bloc obtains 69 seats (55 seats for Zionist parties and 14 seats for Arab parties), while Netanyahu's bloc holds 51 seats.

The Israeli elections are scheduled to be held on October 27, amidst competition between Netanyahu's camp and the opposition parties, in light of the continued political division regarding the future of governance.

The Israeli Prime Minister admitted on Sunday that he is not confident of winning the elections and is "very worried," as forming a government requires obtaining the confidence of at least 61 deputies out of 120 in the Knesset (parliament).

Netanyahu has headed the current government since late 2022, while the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him on November 21, 2024, on suspicion of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.

Netanyahu has also been on trial in Israel since 2020 on corruption charges including bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, accusations he denies.
