22 days before the elections.. The opposition leads Netanyahu's coalition by 5 seats

An Israeli opinion poll, on Sunday, showed that the opposition parties are ahead of the coalition led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with 54 seats compared to 49 for the coalition parties, 22 days before the elections scheduled for October 27.

This was according to a poll published by Channel 12 Hebrew. According to the results, the "Yesh Atid" party led by Gadi Eisenkot maintained the lead among the parties with 23 seats, compared to 21 for the "Likud" party led by Netanyahu.

The "Yamina/Together" party led by Naftali Bennett also obtained 13 seats, and the "Democrats" led by Yair Golan obtained 9 seats.

In contrast, the "Jewish Power" party obtained 7 seats, and the joint bloc of the "Religious Zionism" and "Zionist Union" parties led by Bezalel Smotrich obtained 6 seats, and the "Shas" party led by Aryeh Deri obtained 7 seats.

On the Arab parties front, the Joint List rose to 8 seats after the withdrawal of Sami Abu Shahadeh, the leader of the "National Democratic Assembly" party, from running for the Knesset, while the United Arab List "Ra'am" maintained 5 seats.

For the second time in weeks, the "Amcha Yisrael" party led by Ofer Vinter did not exceed the threshold, according to the poll.

The Israeli Central Elections Committee decided on Sunday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used soldiers in the army for prohibited electoral propaganda and required him to pay expenses of 29,000 shekels (about $9,000).

The 61st Knesset ended its work on July 17 after its dissolution, in preparation for the elections to be held on schedule.

In the elections, the coalition parties led by Netanyahu's "Likud" party are competing with the opposition parties, amid rapprochement between the camps and the recent opinion polls have not determined the possibility of any of them obtaining a majority of 61 seats needed to form a government.

Netanyahu has been heading the current government since late December 2022, which is described as the most right-wing in Israel's history.

Netanyahu faces corruption charges, and the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for him on charges of war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
