"Participate Consciously".. A student campaign from Mu'tah University to enhance political and party participation

Students from Mu'tah University launched a student campaign titled "Participate Consciously" under the slogan "Your political awareness... a true belonging to your homeland", aiming to enhance awareness of the importance of responsible political and party participation among Jordanian university students, and to encourage young people to play their role in public life, within a framework of dialogue and adherence to laws, systems and instructions.

The campaign comes after the participating students took part in specialized training within the "Generation of Modernization" program, which is implemented by the Institute of Politics and Society in partnership with the Dutch Embassy in Jordan, and which includes training students on concepts of political participation, campaign management, planning and advocacy, communication and partnership building.

The "Participate Consciously" campaign focuses on introducing students to their rights and duties in the field of political and party participation, enhancing their knowledge of the guarantees and legal frameworks governing participation, as well as encouraging them to engage in public work based on programs and ideas, and expanding the scope of dialogue on issues that concern students and young people.

Campaign coordinator Dr. Ibrahim Al-Turaini said that the launch of "Participate Consciously" came out of the need to enhance the knowledge of university students about their rights to political and party participation, and to consolidate the concept of responsible participation based on awareness, free choice and respect for pluralism.

Al-Turaini added that the campaign seeks to transform the knowledge and skills acquired by students during their participation in the "Generation of Modernization" program into practical initiatives led by the students themselves, explaining that the goal is not limited to providing information, but extends to building the students' capabilities in dialogue, planning, communication, teamwork and partnership building.

He pointed out that young people constitute a key segment of society, and that enhancing their presence in public life requires providing them with the knowledge and spaces that enable them to express their opinions and priorities in a responsible manner, emphasizing the importance of political and party participation being based on programs, ideas and issues, away from any practices that conflict with university laws and systems.

He explained that the campaign works to build partnerships within the university environment, and to enhance communication with academic and student bodies, in order to develop joint initiatives that serve students and support their presence in activities related to political and civil awareness.

In this context, the "Participate Consciously" team held a meeting with the Dean of Student Affairs at Mu'tah University, Dr. Maher Al-Mubayzin, during which the campaign's vision and objectives were reviewed, and opportunities for cooperation and institutional coordination mechanisms were discussed to support the implementation of its activities and enhance its presence within the university.

The team also held a meeting with members of the Students' Union Council, with the aim of introducing the campaign and discussing priority issues for students, and exploring areas of cooperation between the campaign and the Council, in order to expand the base of student participation in its activities and initiatives.

The campaign team explained that the meetings come within a trend to build ongoing cooperative relations with various university bodies and student representatives, and to integrate roles in a way that enhances student participation in setting priorities, formulating initiatives and implementing them.

Al-Turaini affirmed that "Participate Consciously" will continue to work on providing a space for dialogue and interaction between students, encouraging them to learn about and discuss public issues in a conscious manner, and linking theoretical knowledge with practical experience within the university environment.

He pointed out that political awareness is not limited to following events or knowing the laws, but includes the ability to dialogue and listen to different points of view, understand programs and ideas, and express priorities in a responsible manner, noting that the campaign seeks to contribute to building a student generation that is more aware of its rights and duties and more capable of participating in public life.

According to those in charge, the campaign intends to continue developing its activities and expanding the circle of partnerships with university bodies and students, in order to enhance the culture of participation, dialogue and joint work, and to give students a greater role in designing initiatives that reflect their interests and issues.
