Palestinian Vice President calls for pressure on Israel to create conditions for holding elections

Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh affirmed on Monday the commitment to implementing the Basic Law and the provisions related to holding general elections, stressing that the renewal of leadership and its legitimacy must be through the ballot boxes.

In a post on the "X" platform, al-Sheikh called on the international community to pressure the Israeli occupation authorities to create a suitable climate for holding elections in East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, by stopping oppressive and terrorist practices, removing more than a thousand checkpoints in the West Bank, and stopping crimes in the Gaza Strip.

He also called for the return of Palestinian funds looted through Israeli piracy.

He stressed that elections are not merely a formal display, but rather a fundamental issue that expresses the will of the people, and must be practiced in a way that preserves the minimum level of dignity and independence.
