Palestine and UNRWA top Jordanian diplomatic efforts at the United Nations

The Palestinian issue and support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and the protection of children and humanitarian workers, top the agenda of an intensive Jordanian diplomatic effort during the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, in which Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi participates.

The Jordanian program includes a series of ministerial meetings and high-level meetings focusing on developments in the West Bank and Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, support for UNRWA, strengthening the commitment to international humanitarian law, and protecting humanitarian workers, alongside support for international efforts to implement the two-state solution.

On the UNRWA file, Safadi, in collaboration with Spain and Brazil, will chair the annual ministerial meeting to support the agency and mobilize political and financial support for it, with the participation of the UN Secretary-General, as part of efforts to ensure continued support and enable it to continue providing services to Palestinian refugees.

Jordan, along with Belgium and the European Union, will co-host a high-level event on "The Call to Action for Palestinian Children in the West Bank and Gaza Strip", in light of international efforts to enhance the protection of Palestinian children and respond to their humanitarian needs.

Safadi will participate in the annual coordination meeting of the foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, which will be held at the UN headquarters during the high-level week, and will discuss developments in the West Bank and Jerusalem. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has not yet determined the date of the meeting in its published schedule.

Safadi will also participate on Thursday in the high-level ministerial meeting of the International Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, as part of international efforts to push towards achieving peace based on the two-state solution.

On the file of international humanitarian law, Safadi will participate in a meeting on the "Global Initiative to Mobilize Political Commitment to International Humanitarian Law", launched by Jordan, Brazil, China, France, Kazakhstan, and South Africa in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross, with the aim of strengthening political commitment to the rules and principles enshrined in international humanitarian law.

Safadi will also participate on Wednesday in the inaugural meeting of the countries that signed the "Declaration on the Protection of Humanitarian Workers", which is being held on the occasion of the first anniversary of the launch of the declaration, and will discuss strengthening the protection of workers and ensuring their security and safety during the performance of their duties, the challenges facing humanitarian work, and ways to enhance international protection for workers in this field.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs will also participate in panel discussions on regional and international issues of common interest, alongside the consultative ministerial meeting of the member states of the League of Arab States.

Safadi will also participate on Friday in the joint ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the League of Arab States on Jerusalem, which was decided to be held during the high-level week of the General Assembly in New York.

On the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings, Safadi will hold a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers and participating officials to discuss bilateral relations, regional and international developments, and issues of common interest.

The program of meetings and meetings in which Jordan participates during the General Assembly reflects the focus of the Kingdom's diplomatic movement on the Palestinian issue and the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territories, mobilizing support for UNRWA, alongside strengthening the commitment to international humanitarian law and coordinating with countries and international organizations on priority regional and international files.
