Pakistan Confirms 'Going to the Farthest Extent' in Defending Saudi Arabia

The spokesperson for the Pakistani military announced that the country will 'go to the farthest extent' in defending its ally Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom faces increasing attacks from the Houthis supported by Iran in Yemen.

The spokesperson for the Pakistani military, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said in an interview with the Arab News newspaper published on Thursday, 'We will go to the farthest extent for the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia'.

Last month, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey signed what is known as the 'Mecca Agreement for Joint Defense', which obligates the three countries to the principle of mutual defense in the event any of them is attacked.

This agreement came in the context of the war between the United States and Iran, and the attacks by the Houthis supported by Tehran in the region.

Chaudhry added, 'Pakistan stands fully behind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, both diplomatically and militarily'.
