One person was killed and eight others were injured in an attack on Wednesday on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, the General Authority of Civil Aviation announced on Thursday morning, as the Iran-backed Houthis continue to target airports and oil facilities across the Kingdom.
The Authority stated in a post on the X platform, "King Fahd International Airport in Dammam was subjected to an attack on Wednesday evening... The attack resulted in the death of a resident and the injury of 8 others, whose injuries ranged from minor to severe," without mentioning the source of the drone.
The Saudi-led coalition announced over the past few hours the "interception and destruction" of five drones in this oil-rich region.
On Wednesday, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced that two people were killed and two others injured due to falling debris following the interception of a drone that was targeting a facility at the Shaybah oil field located in the oil-rich Eastern Province.
Houthi attacks in recent days have reached an unprecedented scale, including several strikes on Riyadh Airport, one of which resulted in the death of 13 people and the injury of hundreds of others on October 10, in the deadliest attack on Saudi territory in more than ten years.
In total, 21 people have been killed in attacks on Saudi airports since the beginning of this month.
Hostilities between Riyadh, which supports the internationally recognized Yemeni government, and the Iran-backed Houthis renewed in July against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, with the collapse of a truce that had been in effect in Yemen since 2022.
The Houthis have made gains on the ground at the expense of Yemeni government forces, seizing control of the west coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait area. Government forces, supported by the Riyadh-led coalition, have launched a counter-offensive.
