Ministry of Tourism warns against dealing with unlicensed travel agencies

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities called on Wednesday for the necessity of verifying the licensing and classification of travel and tourism agencies before booking or purchasing tourism programs and trips, in order to preserve their rights and avoid exposure to fraud or falling victim to fake offers.

The Ministry emphasized the importance of dealing with duly licensed agencies and adhering to the legislation regulating the practice of tourism professions and activities, noting that practicing tourism professions and activities and providing them through websites, programs, and digital platforms requires obtaining the necessary approvals in accordance with the provisions of the Tourism Law and the regulations and instructions issued pursuant thereto.

Article (9) of the Tourism Law stipulates that it is permissible to practice the tourism professions and activities specified in the law after obtaining the required approval, while Article (21) defines the penalties for violating its provisions, which may reach imprisonment for a period of no less than six months and no more than one year, or a fine of no less than three thousand dinars and no more than ten thousand dinars, or both penalties, according to the cases stipulated in the article.

The Ministry also called for verifying the licensing and classification of agencies before completing bookings or transferring any financial amounts, by contacting the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities at (06) 460 3360, stressing the importance of awareness and prior verification to ensure a safe tourism experience and protect the rights of beneficiaries.
