Mastermind of Donnarumma's home robbery sentenced to prison

The main mastermind behind the robbery of former Paris Saint-Germain and Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his pregnant partner, who were held hostage in their Parisian apartment in July 2023, was sentenced to nine years in prison on Friday by a Paris court.

The Paris Criminal Court sentenced Ilyes Kharbouch (21 years old), the mastermind of the robbery, to nine years in prison and a fine of 80 thousand euros (92 thousand dollars).

Donnarumma, currently the goalkeeper for English club Manchester City, was severely beaten during the robbery, while his then-fiancée and now-wife, Alessia Elefante, was choked with a cable and later suffered a miscarriage attributed to the trauma of the incident.

Another defendant, Mokhtar D., was sentenced to five years in prison, with two years suspended subject to a probationary period.

As for the third defendant, Khian M., whom the prosecution also suspected of orchestrating the robbery from inside his prison cell, he was acquitted of the charge.

On July 21, 2023, in the dead of night, Donnarumma and his fiancée Alessia Elefante were abruptly awakened to find themselves held by four masked men who had infiltrated their luxury ninth-floor apartment via the rooftops. Donnarumma's partner suffered a miscarriage shortly afterward, which was attributed to the trauma she experienced that night.

Within minutes, a gang of seven men, some of whom remain unidentified, looted cash, jewelry, watches, and luxury bags, which the Italian national team goalkeeper estimated at just under one million euros.

This horrifying robbery took place in one of the capital's most prestigious neighborhoods, on Avenue Montaigne, which "has become targeted by an increasingly youthful criminality (a high number of young criminals)", as detailed by the public prosecutor during his plea, before listing the names of seven celebrities targeted by home burglaries between 2022 and 2025.

The prosecution added that this "highly lucrative" and "extremely violent" criminality targets "the very stars he himself cheers for", drawing a connection between the brilliant career of the football player and a completely different path of youth "drowning in crime".
