Ducati's Spanish rider Marc Marquez, a seven-time world champion, took first place in the San Marino Grand Prix of the MotoGP World Championship, finishing ahead of his younger brother Alex, a rider for the Ducati-Gresini team, and snatching the lead in the overall standings.
Marco Bezzecchi, a native of the Misano circuit overlooking the Adriatic Sea and an Aprilia rider, started from pole position but crashed on the second lap of the 27-lap race on the Italian track, while Spaniard Jorge Martin (Aprilia), the third contender for the world championship title, finished in fifth place.
With this result, Martin, born in Madrid and nicknamed "Martinator," lost the world championship lead to Marquez, who at the age of 33 is seeking to win his eighth world title in the MotoGP category.
Finishing ahead of Martin in the San Marino Grand Prix were his compatriots Pedro Acosta (KTM) and Fermin Aldeguer (Ducati-Gresini).
As for the French riders Johann Zarco (Honda-LCR) and Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha), who started from the middle of the grid, they finished in 15th and 10th place respectively, after the former suffered a crash two laps from the end, while the 2021 world champion from Nice settled for tenth place.
