Galatasaray imposed their dominance on the first half and managed to translate their control into two goals, the first of which was opened by Nigerian Victor Osimhen in the 29th minute with a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area, following an assist from his teammate Barış Alper Yılmaz.
Osimhen continued to threaten the goal of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, before extending the hosts' lead with a second goal in the 44th minute, when he headed in a powerful shot launched by Colombian Davinson Sánchez from outside the penalty area, sending the ball into the net.
The Nigerian striker almost completed his hat-trick before the end of the first half, after scoring a header from a cross by Russian Aleksandr Patrakov, but the referee disallowed it following a decision by the assistant referee for offside, ending the first half with Galatasaray leading two goals to nil.
In the second half, Fenerbahçe's performance improved, and they managed to reduce the deficit in the 62nd minute with a wonderful goal signed by İrfan Kahveci, who capitalized on a short pass from Oğuz Aydın to convert it with a bicycle kick into the net of goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır, bringing his team back into the match.
The remaining minutes witnessed serious mutual attempts by both teams to change the result, with a relative advantage for Galatasaray, who missed more than one opportunity to extend their lead, without either side succeeding in finding the net again, for the match to end with the hosts winning 2-1.
