French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that he had managed to secure quantities of liquefied natural gas from Qatar during his Gulf tour, at a time when he is facing intense pressure in his country following acts of violence and vandalism that marred protests against the high cost of living on Saturday.

Macron told reporters in the Qatari capital, "We have secured the equivalent of 2 terawatt-hours per month of liquefied natural gas during the winter season," adding, "This was important for us, and it will enable us to move forward."
