King on Syria: Israel's Expansionist Ambitions Have Become a Regional Threat

King Abdullah II warned on Tuesday against the continuation of the Israeli approach in southern Syria, affirming that any threat to Jordan's northern borders or its water security represents a threat to the kingdom's national security.

In a speech before the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, His Majesty said that the expansionist ambitions of the Israeli government have become a regional threat, warning that Syria today represents an "alarm that the international community chooses not to pay attention to"

The King pointed to repeated incursions, geographical expansion, and the imposition of new facts on the ground in Syria, "including those affecting vital water sources"

His Majesty said that Israel, "with one calculated step after another", is testing how far it can go, adding that every time the international community turns its gaze away, Israel concludes that it can go further and exceed geographical boundaries and laws.

The King affirmed Jordan's stance on these developments, saying: "As for Jordan, the matter is as clear as the sun: any threat to our northern borders or our water security is a threat to our national security. Jordan will not turn a blind eye, but we will protect our security, our water, and the interests of our people"

At the end of his speech on Syria, His Majesty asked: "If Israel continues its aggressive approach in southern Syria, will the international community let it get away with it without taking any action?"
