His Majesty King Abdullah II met, on Tuesday, the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Dr. Khaled Al-Anany, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York.

The meeting, attended by His Highness Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II, discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Jordan and the organization in the fields of preserving cultural and natural heritage, especially as Jordan prepares to commemorate the second millennium of the Baptism of Jesus Christ in 2030 at the Baptism Site of Jesus Christ (Bethany Beyond the Jordan).

The meeting addressed cooperation in the education sector, especially in the fields of developing the education system, vocational and technical education and training, digital transformation, and capacity building.

Speaking about the consequences of regional tensions, His Majesty pointed to the importance of the organization's role in protecting the heritage of the city of Jerusalem and its authentic character in light of Israeli escalation, stressing the need to intensify international efforts in this regard.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, and the Director of His Majesty's Office, Engineer Alaa Batayneh.
