The treacherous bullets fired by a group of Takfiri terrorists at the Church of Saint George in the village of Hamoud in the Al-Qasr district north of Karak Governorate, did not only target innocent mourners, but was a treacherous stab and a desperate attempt to undermine the impregnable fortress of Jordan, its national unity, and the deep-rooted religious fraternity that has been established throughout history.
Karak was shrouded in black, and deep sorrow and widespread shock enveloped every household in the province, but this tragic calamity did not shake the absolute confidence that any attempt to harm public peace or compromise the security of citizens will be met with firmness, through the vigilance of security agencies and the efficiency of the law in protecting the homeland, preserving its security and stability, and the awareness of the Jordanian citizen and his solidarity with state institutions in confronting all attempts at sedition and terrorism.
Community events that spoke to "Al-Rai" confirmed that targeting a place of worship by a deviant sect that has taken religion as a slogan, while it is innocent of it, reflects the deep-seated hatred of the extremist Takfiri ideology that has stripped itself of all human and moral values. However, as proven, the blood of the martyrs of Karak will only make the homeland more resilient and cohesive, and the bullets of treachery will rebound on their shooters as an impregnable barrier that thwarts all plots of sedition and division.
Karak Endowments Director Sinan Al-Majali said, "We condemn the treacherous criminal incident that targeted the Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hamoud, north of Karak, during the funeral procession of Amina, in which innocent martyrs and injured people from our people were killed."
He added that this cowardly act is not related to our religion, values, or the morals of the people of Karak, as it is an attack on the sanctity of God, an attack on the soul that God has forbidden to be killed, and an attack on the security, stability, and national unity of Jordan, affirming that we stand in a single row with the Christian brothers in the village of Hamoud and Karak in general, in this great loss.
He pointed out that the right of Christians in Islam is a protected and preserved right, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recommended it, saying: "Whoever oppresses a treaty or diminishes him or burdens him beyond his capacity or takes something from him without his consent, I am his adversary on the Day of Judgment," and added that Christians in Jordan are not guests, but they are the owners of the house and its origin, they have what we have and they have what we have upon them, and their churches and places of worship are under the protection of God and Muslims and the protection of the state.
Al-Majali affirmed that Karak has been and will remain a model of coexistence, with the mosque next to the church, and the call to prayer next to the church bell, we have never been divided by religion or sect, and what happened is a desperate attempt to sow sedition in a single body that cannot be torn apart, asking God for mercy for the martyrs, speedy recovery for the injured, and to preserve Jordan and its wise Hashemite leadership.
Karak Mufti Dr. Walid Al-Dhneibat said that this criminal act in the Church of Hamoud in Karak completely contradicts the values of our pure Islamic religion, which prohibits the killing of innocent souls and commands us to do good and justice, as God Almighty says: (God does not forbid you from those who did not fight you for your religion or expel you from your homes to be kind to them and to be just to them. Indeed, God loves those who are just) and His saying: (And do not kill the soul which Allah has made sacred except by right). As was the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who recommended, even in times of war, not to harm women and children, or those who were worshiping in a hermitage or a church.
He continued that the hand of treachery that targeted innocent blood during a funeral and condolence event must receive a deterrent punishment, as God says: (Indeed, those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon the earth [to cause] corruption - their penalty will be that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off on opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land).
Dr. Al-Dhneibat pointed out that Karak witnesses an unparalleled state of harmony and coexistence between Muslims and Christians, and there are no enmities or anything that disturbs the good relations between us, and this criminal act will not affect the unity and cohesion of Jordan, and our homeland will remain impervious to anyone who dares to compromise its security.
Karak Creativity Club Executive Director Eng. Hossam Al-Trawneh said that we followed the major criminal incident in the town of Hamoud with great pain and regret, and we strongly condemn it, affirming that what happened was the result of a long-term process of mobilization, incitement, brainwashing, and support for a deviant group that found someone to nurture and support it.
He added that the cold-blooded execution of innocent Jordanian citizens in a place of worship and during a funeral ceremony was premeditated, calling for the harshest and most severe punishments and striking with an iron hand not only the perpetrators but also the instigators, planners, supporters, and the eradication of the supportive environments for them.
Al-Trawneh explained that terrorism and sleeper cells do not reside in homes but in minds, and that the crime was against the Christian and Islamic religions, humanity, the homeland, and targeted every Jordanian. He expressed full confidence in the security agencies and all Jordanian state institutions to apprehend the killers and seek retribution from them.
Karak Greater Municipality Committee Chairman Dr. Muhammad Al-Manasir expressed the strongest feelings of condemnation and denunciation of the cowardly criminal act that targeted the people in the town of Hamoud in a sinful attack that rejects all human and moral values, and contradicts the security of our society and the safety of its members.
He stressed that the security and safety of citizens is a red line, and that such acts will not affect the cohesion and unity of our society, nor the values of love and fraternity that Karak and its people have been known for throughout its history, affirming that we stand with the security agencies and the relevant authorities in their efforts to protect citizens and maintain security and stability, expressing confidence in their ability to take the necessary measures and hold accountable anyone proven to be involved in this attack in accordance with the provisions of the law.
Shihan Municipality Committee Chairman Eng. Bahjat Al-Ruwaished said that the sinful attack is a rejected act that contradicts our religious, humanitarian, and national values, and targets the security and stability of society, and threatens the principles of peaceful coexistence and brotherhood that unite the children of one nation. The attack on places of worship is an attack on the sanctity of sacred places and the right of man to practice his religious rites with safety and tranquility.
He affirmed the absolute rejection of all forms of violence, terrorism, and attacks on places of worship, which represent symbols of faith, tolerance, and peace, calling for the consolidation of efforts to preserve the security and unity of the homeland, and the taking of necessary legal measures against anyone proven to be involved in this incident, in order to ensure justice and the protection of citizens' security.
For his part, Karak University College Dean Dr. Haroun Al-Trawneh said that the painful incident that occurred in the village of Hamoud, which left a deep impact on the souls, and aroused feelings of sadness and grief among all members of the Jordanian community, represents a violation of religious and humanitarian values, and unacceptable acts that are not in line with the principles and authentic values of Jordanian society. He stressed that Jordan, with its wise leadership, the cohesion of its people, the awareness of its sons, and the vigilance of its security agencies, will remain cohesive in the face of various challenges, and capable of thwarting all attempts that target its security, stability, and national unity.
He added that while the college family expresses its deep condemnation of this unfortunate incident, it affirms that the preservation of human life and the protection of its dignity are among the greatest objectives that Islamic Sharia and heavenly laws have come to achieve, offering condolences to the families of the deceased, the people of the village of Hamoud, Karak, and the country in general.
Karak Women's Committees Gathering Rapporteur and Deputy Chairwoman of the Karak Greater Municipality Committee Maysoon Al-Mabaydeen condemned in the strongest terms the heinous crime that targeted innocent lives, in a sinful attack that contradicts all religious, humanitarian, and moral values, and constitutes a serious infringement on the sanctity of human life and the sanctity of places of worship.
She said that targeting the innocent is a crime that cannot be justified or tolerated under any pretext, and is a rejected attempt to spread fear and sedition among the children of one nation, as Karak, with its deep history and national authenticity, is too great to be affected by terrorism, and its people have been and will remain a model of dignity, chivalry, and national unity.
She explained that our national unity is not a slogan that we raise in difficult times, but a firm covenant and a steadfast position, and we will not allow terrorism or extremist thought to divide our ranks or sow hatred among us, as the Jordanian blood is one, the sanctity of man is one, and the security of the homeland is a red line that does not accept compromise, affirming that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, will remain impervious to all attempts to tamper with its security and stability, and its people, regardless of their religions and beliefs, will remain one family, united by their belonging to this homeland and their loyalty to its Hashemite leadership.
