The Jordan Forum for Policies Dialogue organized the events of the "Irbid National Forum" at the Irbid Chamber of Commerce auditorium, to discuss the speech of His Majesty King Abdullah II before the United Nations General Assembly, and how to translate the sublime royal messages into public policies that enhance the national security system to face security and economic challenges in light of the rapid geopolitical transformations in the region.
Participants and speakers during the forum stressed that His Majesty the King's speech came at the opportune time to shed light on current global crises, pointing out that the speech contributed significantly to enhancing the presence of the Jordanian stance internationally, particularly regarding the Palestinian cause and the necessity of respecting international law. The speakers drew attention to the striking scene that accompanied Benjamin Netanyahu's speech before the United Nations General Assembly, represented by the wide walkouts of a number of delegations and diplomats, considering that this reflects the growing international objection to Israeli policies and their direct impact on the security and stability of the region.
For her part, the first assistant to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and member of the Al-Eslah Party, Representative Hala Al-Jarrah, stated that the large and remarkable attendance at this forum emphasizes the utmost importance of His Majesty the King's speech and his standing among the citizens of the homeland. Al-Jarrah explained that His Majesty's speech represents a sublime royal directive under the constitution directed to all state institutions, foremost among them the House of Representatives and political parties, pointing to the pivotal role of parliament and parties in the coming phase, and affirming that legislative work is based on the sublime royal directives.
She also stressed the need for the government to take proactive decisions and measures regarding supply chains, food and commercial security to face the challenges resulting from the current regional circumstances, which have begun to be clearly felt.
In the same context, Dr. Tيسير Al-Nuaimi, former minister and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Yarmouk University, explained that His Majesty the King's speech was political par excellence and put the dots on the letters at a time when the entire world needs to find radical solutions to successive crises.
Al-Nuaimi stressed that the speech reaffirmed the absolute centrality of legitimate Palestinian rights, stating that His Majesty carried the voice of justice and truth before the international community, and that the stability of the region and the world cannot be achieved without a fair and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian cause that guarantees ending the occupation and establishing the independent Palestinian state.
For his part, retired Major General Dr. Ahmed Bani Hamdan Al-Ayasrah pointed out that His Majesty the King shed light on modern concepts of threats to national security, explaining that they are no longer limited to land borders or traditional military threats, but have expanded to include water and food security and natural resources, affirming that Jordan will not stand idly by in the face of any infringement on its supreme national interests.
Dr. Moatasem Saidan, former Minister of Water and Irrigation, also addressed the pivotal water file, affirming the Jordanian state's keenness since its inception to secure its legitimate water share, particularly from the Yarmouk Basin, in addition to Jordan's pursuit to secure the share of our brothers in Palestine despite the absence of absolute Arab support at that time. Saidan presented Jordan's historical agreements and international water stages, stressing the steadfastness of the Jordanian stance and not wavering on any of its water rights.
At the conclusion of the forum, the President of the Jordan Forum for Policies Dialogue, Prof. Dr. Hameed Al-Batayneh, emphasized that organizing this forum aligns with the forum's role as a national dialogue platform to read strategic issues. Al-Batayneh explained that the Royal speech provides a comprehensive vision that forms a roadmap for state institutions, parties, and civil society to enhance national security in its comprehensive concept that links political stability with water and food preparedness to face regional transformations, stressing that the forum will continue to open spaces for dialogue and translate discussions into practical recommendations that support public policymaking.
