Iraq: Exporting Fuel Oil via Jordan to Global Markets

The spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, Salem Al-Rikabi, said that the Ministry of Oil, through the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), has contracted with companies that buy the warehoused fuel oil product and export it through the port of Aqaba and through Jordanian territory.

Al-Rikabi added in statements to 'Al-Mamlaka' that the quantities of fuel oil exported through Jordan are 'not fixed', explaining that they depend on the number of tankers, security permits, and the status of the port of Aqaba.

The Iraqi State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO) had announced in May and June 2026 the offer of quantities of fuel oil for export, to be transported by tanker trucks through available land ports, while the company's report on March 2026 exports indicated the resumption of fuel oil export by road via tanker trucks.

- Haditha-Aqaba Pipeline

Regarding the Haditha-Aqaba oil pipeline project, Al-Rikabi said that 'the issue of the pipeline is still under study at present'.

The Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project is 1600 kilometers long, including the laying of the first section of the pipeline within Iraqi territory (Ramila-Haditha) with a distance of approximately 700 km, with a design capacity of two million and 250 thousand barrels, and the laying of the second section of the pipeline within Jordanian territory (Haditha-Aqaba) with a distance of 900 km, with a design capacity of one million barrels.
