Iranian state media reported on Sunday that Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Pakniat has resigned, and Hamid Tafakori, the CEO of the state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, will take over as acting minister.
The media did not disclose the reason for the resignation.
Mohsen Pakniat took over the Iranian Oil Ministry, a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), in August 2024, and his resignation comes amid the pressure of the ongoing war between Iran and the United States for seven months on the country's economy.
State media quoted an official from Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's office as saying, "After Dr. Pezeshkian accepted Mohsen Pakniat's resignation, Hamid Tafakori was appointed as acting Oil Minister."
