Import of 1.1 million cellular phones until the end of the third quarter of 2026

Jordan's total imports of cellular phones reached about 1.1 million phones, with a value approaching 116 million dinars, during the first nine months of 2026.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Al-Roohya Association for Investors in Cellular Devices and Accessories, the number of imported smartphones dropped by about 17 percent compared to the same period in 2025, which saw the import of about 1.3 million phones, a decrease of nearly 224,000 phones, coinciding with pressures resulting from rising device prices and their reflection on consumers' purchasing power and market movement.

The association's president, Ahmed Alloush, said that the rise in phone prices is mainly due to the global increase in memory chip prices, as a result of growing demand for them with the expansion of major companies' investments in artificial intelligence and data centers.

He explained that these chips are an essential component in manufacturing devices, and that the rise in their cost is reflected in the prices of devices at factories, and then on the cost of new shipments imported by traders into Jordan.
