Former President of the Furniture Dealers and Producers Association, Sharaf Hijajneh, said that furniture prices in the local market are witnessing a decline, attributing this to the increase in supply compared to demand, along with weak demand and the lack of regulation in the sector.
Hijajneh warned against purchasing furniture online or without direct inspection, in light of existing fraud cases, urging consumers to ensure the quality and specifications of furniture before purchasing.
He explained that furniture prices are witnessing a decrease despite the rise in shipping and logistics costs, noting that the volume of supply in the local market exceeds demand, which has reflected on prices.
He pointed out that the lack of regulation in the furniture and carpet sector contributed to the increase in supply and the decline in prices, explaining that the entry of non-specialized stores into the carpet trade, including clothing and household items stores, leads to the offering of goods at low prices when their owners wish to get rid of them.
Hijajneh indicated that the furniture sector also faces competition from a number of unlicensed industrialists and traders, especially in some areas of East Amman and Al-Zarqa, pointing out that the non-compliance of some establishments with taxes, subscriptions, and government obligations affects competition within the market.
He added that the weakness of the local market and the multitude of taxes imposed on the sector constitute additional factors that affect the movement of the furniture market and prices.
