Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan visited the Abdullah Bin Umm Maktum Secondary Co-educational School for the Blind in the Marka District, and directed that the school be provided with modern equipment for teaching blind students, that the computer lab be updated, that its clinic be staffed with a general practitioner and equipped with the necessary medical supplies and devices, that the four buses designated for transporting students be replaced with modern ones, and that a comprehensive rehabilitation of all school yards and facilities be carried out.
The school enjoys royal attention, as it was inaugurated by His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah, and their Majesties paid an inspection visit to it in 2018.
It is the only public school in the Kingdom for teaching blind students, and the only one that prints the "Braille" curriculum. It has 338 students, including 260 blind and visually impaired students, and employs 140 teachers and administrators, 100 of whom are blind teachers.
It covers all stages of school education from kindergarten to the second secondary grade, and provides students with services including: psychological and social support, Braille instruction, life skills, sensory training, medical examination and diagnosis for students, occupational and physical therapy, and transportation services.
