The conference will focus on a set of sectors with strategic priority, including transport, logistics, energy, the digital economy, technology, industry, and water security, in addition to strengthening Jordan's role as a regional economic and investment gateway.
Experts and representatives of the commercial and industrial sectors believe that maximizing the benefit from these potentials requires moving beyond renewable energy production to attracting green industries, developing clean energy technologies, and providing energy at competitive prices, in addition to improving the investment environment and simplifying procedures, which contributes to technology transfer, job creation, increasing exports, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy.
The Ministry of Environment recently began technical support work to update the Green Growth Plans – Phase II for the energy, transport, agriculture, water, tourism, and waste sectors, with support from the European Union Delegation to Jordan and as a continuation of the outputs of the National Green Growth Action Plans for the years 2021–2026, in line with the priorities of the Economic Modernization Vision and the requirements of the coming phase.
In May, the Council of Ministers approved the updated energy sector strategy for the years 2026–2030, aiming to complete hydrogen projects and gradually export hydrogen starting from the beginning of 2030 to reach 500,000 tons of hydrogen in 2035, develop the public transport system in the Kingdom, expand the use of electric vehicles and grant incentives, use car batteries to feed the grid (V2G), use natural gas for heavy vehicles, as well as operate railways for freight transport, improve building efficiency, implement energy codes, and expand the use of solar water heaters.
The CEO of Business Development at the Al-Amlaq Industrial Group, Mohammad Al-Samadi, emphasized that green energy represents one of the most prominent opportunities available to the Kingdom to attract new European investments, in light of the accelerating European trend toward clean energy, emission reduction, and the diversification of energy sources and supply chains.
He said that Jordan possesses competitive elements in this field, most notably the abundance of solar and wind energy sources, its geographical location, stability, as well as its relations with the European Union and its trade agreements that allow access to multiple markets.
He added that the Kingdom's opportunities are not limited to generating electricity from renewable energy sources, but extend to the fields of green hydrogen and ammonia, energy storage, green industries, and the manufacturing of clean energy components and technologies, in addition to attracting European industries looking for more competitive and lower-carbon production sites.
He pointed out that employing green energy as a tool to attract industrial investments would enhance the added value of the national economy and open new horizons for developing the local production base.
Al-Samadi explained that attracting the European investor requires, in addition to the availability of renewable energy sources, clear legislation, accelerated procedures, the provision of appropriate infrastructure, and the presentation of clear and bankable projects, which enhances opportunities for market access.
He confirmed that Jordan has an opportunity to transition from importing clean energy technology to participating in its production, manufacturing, and export, which contributes to attracting new investments, providing job opportunities, transferring technology, increasing exports, and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy.
For his part, the General Manager and Board Member of Amman Pharmaceutical Industries, Dr. Fadi Al-Atrash, indicated that green energy represents one of the most prominent opportunities available to the Kingdom to attract new European investments in light of the increasing interest of investors in sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint, in addition to production costs.
Al-Atrash said that Jordan possesses competitive advantages in this field, including the abundance of solar and wind energy sources, its strategic location, stability, and human competencies, as well as trade agreements that allow access to important markets.
He added that the opportunity is not limited to producing and exporting green energy, but also lies in utilizing it to attract European industries that take Jordan as a production hub using clean energy and exporting to European and regional markets.
He pointed out that achieving this requires providing green energy at competitive prices, in addition to creating an attractive investment environment and simplifying procedures, which enhances the Kingdom's ability to attract industrial investments and raise the competitiveness of its products in foreign markets.
Al-Atrash emphasized that the integration of these factors gives Jordan a real opportunity to strengthen its role in production and supply chains related to clean energy, and to transform its potential in renewable energy into new industrial investments, job opportunities, and added value for the national economy.
In turn, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nuqul Group and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Fine Hygienic Holding, Ghassan Nuqul, pointed to the importance of green energy for European countries, confirming that Jordan possesses the elements that qualify it to invest in alternative energy sources, including solar and wind energy.
He said that technological development has allowed for the utilization of natural gas in generating energy used in industry, with the possibility of employing technologies that contribute to reducing emissions, which enhances the Kingdom's opportunities to attract European investments in the energy sector.
