Gold prices rose on Monday, after weak economic data recently sharply reduced expectations that the Federal Reserve (the US central bank) will raise interest rates in October, increasing the appeal of the non-yielding asset.
According to Bloomberg, gold in spot transactions rose 0.4 percent to $4158.17 per ounce (ounce), and US futures for gold delivery in December rose 0.6 percent to $4186.40.
As for other precious metals, silver in spot transactions rose 1.7 percent to $61.40 per ounce, platinum rose 0.6 percent to $1708.48, and palladium rose 0.6 percent to $1175.04.
Meanwhile, the US dollar index stabilized today, near its highest level in 17 months at 101.97 points, supported by safe-haven flows and rising US Treasury yields.
