The General Authority for Food and Drug Control, in cooperation with the customs personnel at Jaber Customs Center, on Friday, thwarted an attempt to import a quantity of hormones in various pharmaceutical forms through the center, where they were seized before entering the Kingdom.
The Authority clarified, in a press statement, that the seizures included 70 injections, in addition to more than 100 hormone tablets, indicating that its staff confiscated the seizures in preparation for their official destruction, and initiated procedures to refer the concerned parties to the Public Prosecutor to take legal action against them.
The Authority added that the seizure of these hormones came within the framework of ongoing monitoring operations and stringent regulatory measures, noting that over the past weeks, they had dealt with attempts to import 14 types of hormones in various quantities and pharmaceutical forms.
The Authority pointed out that the seized hormones are banned from trading, unregistered, and not legally licensed, and are misused in bodybuilding due to the health risks and potential side effects they entail, including increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, hormonal disorders, and impact on fertility.
The Authority urges citizens to ensure that any substance or preparation is approved by the Authority before use, to protect their health and safety, and invites them to contact it through the official complaints platform via WhatsApp on the number (0795632000), or via the hotline (117114) in case of any observation, inquiry, or complaint.
