Economic experts agreed that the success of the security services in arresting the suspects in the terrorist attack that targeted Saint George's Church in the village of Hamoud in Karak Governorate boosts confidence in the ability of national institutions to protect society and maintain stability, confirming that security constitutes a fundamental factor in supporting the investment environment and protecting economic sectors, especially tourism and trade.
They said in interviews with (Alrai) that security and political stability are among the factors influencing the decisions of local and foreign investors, alongside incentives and expected returns, as it is linked to insurance and protection costs, the safety of employees and property, and business continuity, noting that containing threats and pursuing those involved in accordance with the law contribute to reducing potential risks to economic activity.
Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya confirmed, during a joint press conference with the Minister of Government Communication and official government spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Al-Momani, and the Director of Public Security Major General Obeidallah Al-Maaytah, that the arrest of those involved in the attack does not mean the end of the case, stressing that investigations and the collection of technical evidence will continue to hold everyone proven to be involved accountable. He praised the efforts of the security services that dealt with the threat efficiently and managed to arrest the suspects without any casualties among their ranks.
The Chairman of the Zarqa Chamber of Industry, Engineer Fares Hammoudeh, said that the efforts of the security services reflect the ability of Jordanian institutions to deal with challenges and enhance the Kingdom's image as a safe environment in a region witnessing increasing conflicts. He added that international media coverage of the incident highlighted the state's procedures in dealing with it, noting that the efficiency of the security response reflects positively on investor confidence and the movement of tourism and trade.
Hammoudeh pointed out that Jordan has faced multiple crises throughout its history through institutional work and organized handling of challenges, confirming that maintaining security and stability supports economic activity and enhances the Kingdom's ability to attract investments and continue developing its productive and service sectors.
For his part, economic expert Wajdi Makhamreh said that the arrest of the suspects represents an important development in protecting national security and the rule of law, and boosts confidence in the ability of institutions to deal with threats, especially in light of regional challenges. He added that security readiness and coordination between the concerned authorities, alongside the role of society in confronting extremism and maintaining national unity, constitute important elements in protecting stability.
Makhamreh explained that security represents a key factor in local and foreign investment decisions, as quick and effective handling of threats helps reduce concerns related to security risks and maintain the continuity of projects and economic activities. Its importance also stands out for the tourism sector, which relies on the confidence of visitors in the security and stability of the tourist destination, especially since Karak Governorate possesses prominent historical and tourist assets.
He added that the economic impacts of terrorism, when repeated or turned into extended risks, may exceed direct losses to include the postponement of investment decisions, increased insurance and protection costs, declining visitor spending, and disrupted supply chains. He stressed that these impacts remain possibilities linked to the persistence of risks and do not mean that economic losses have been realized in Jordan as a result of the incident.
In turn, financial and economic expert Dr. Mohammad Al-Hadab Al-Sarhan confirmed that the crime represents a humanitarian and national tragedy, and that the loss of life remains the most painful aspect of it, noting that arresting the suspects within about 60 hours reflects the ability of institutions to respond to threats and pursue those involved, and that protecting the human being and their right to life and safety are the foundation of stability and development.
Al-Sarhan valued the directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II to pursue those involved, enforce the law, and evaluate security procedures to enhance readiness, noting that the consolation of the Hashemite family to the families of the martyrs, and the popular solidarity among Jordanians, Muslims and Christians, embody the cohesion of society and the rejection of violence, hatred, and extremism.
He explained that the sectors most affected by security risks include tourism, hotels, aviation, transport, trade, services, and industrial investment, due to their connection to the movement of people and goods and the confidence of foreign markets. He emphasized the importance of continuing coordination between security and economic institutions and the authorities concerned with tourism and investment, and providing accurate information to prevent rumors from exaggerating risks, stressing that institutional stability, national unity, and the rule of law are complementary factors to economic incentives and infrastructure in boosting investor confidence.
The experts pointed out that security stability provides an environment supportive of economic growth, attracting investments, and providing job opportunities, but it remains part of a broader system that requires continuing economic reforms and improving productivity and living standards.
