Agence France-Presse (AFP) learned from consistent sources that the match between France's Rennes and Greece's Olympiacos, part of the fourth round of the UEFA "Europa League" football competition and originally scheduled for Thursday, November 5, may be brought forward to Wednesday, November 4, due to expected social unrest in France.
The Rennes prefecture informed AFP that "discussions are underway to reschedule this match."
The source at the prefecture added that "the issue is not about available resources, but about security and safety conditions," explaining the reason for these discussions.
On November 5, France is scheduled to witness strikes and demonstrations called for by several unions, which will require a significant mobilization of security forces.
A source familiar with the file indicated to AFP that the current trend leans towards holding the match on Wednesday, the 4th of the same month, subject to "the approval of the French authorities," even though Wednesday is usually reserved for the most important continental competition of the European football governing body, the Champions League.
