Irbid Governorate is witnessing increasing urban activity and remarkable growth in the housing sector, accompanied by horizontal and vertical expansion across its various regions, especially given the large area and residential and developmental expanse in the governorate.
Irbid Governorate is the second largest governorate in Jordan in terms of population and developmental importance, witnessing urban extension and significant expansion in construction and real estate development, concentrated particularly toward the southern lands, alongside escalating urban activity in the eastern and western regions of the governorate, particularly in the Irbid Qasabah District, which is seeing remarkable turnout for the construction of residential complexes and projects.
In this context, the Head of the Engineers Association branch in Irbid Governorate, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Rababa'a, revealed figures and statistics issued by the association regarding building licenses, pointing out that the volume of licensed areas up to today's date (September 12, 2026) reached 1,450,399 square meters, compared to 1,412,000 square meters recorded during the same period in 2025, with an increase rate of about 3%.
Al-Rababa'a emphasized that the housing sector is one of the most vital sectors in Irbid, stressing the importance of keeping pace with this comprehensive urban growth and development. He pointed out that the association provides all facilities for investors and contractors through specialized licensing teams and committees to expedite their transactions and facilitate official procedures.
For his part, the Chairman of the Irbid Chamber of Commerce, Mohammad Al-Shohha, affirmed that the housing sector has demonstrated high capability and flexibility in facing challenges, explaining that it is one of the vital, promising sectors that constitutes an important tributary to the national economy system.
Al-Shohha pointed out that the revival of this sector positively reflects on more than 40 professions and crafts that intersect and overlap with its work, in addition to its direct impact in providing permanent and seasonal job opportunities for youth and reducing unemployment.
In the same context, construction sector investor and quarry owner, Amin Al-Ramahi - who served as a member of the Irbid Chamber of Industry board representing the construction industries sector in the previous term, and is likely to return to the board according to the preliminary results and current indicators of the chamber elections - affirmed that the construction industries sector, including quarries, crushers, block factories, and basic materials, constitutes the vital artery and backbone of the construction movement. He pointed out that this sector is closely and directly linked to the housing sector, as its growth and operation depend entirely on the movement of expansion in construction and buildings.
Al-Ramahi stressed the exceptional economic and social importance of the construction sector, explaining that it is at the forefront of economic sectors that employ local labor and provide job opportunities for various segments and field professions, making it a main driver for pushing the wheel of production and development, revitalizing the economic cycle in the governorate, and reducing unemployment rates.
