Emir of Qatar: Closing the Strait of Hormuz disrupts energy exports and threatens global markets

The Emir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, said on Tuesday that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the damage sustained by the Ras Laffan facilities have led to the disruption of a significant portion of Qatar's exports, noting that Qatar secures about one-fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas trade, which means any developments affecting it reflect on markets and consumers.

He added that his country and the region have faced exceptional events that have once again proven the cohesion of state institutions, confirming that the national economy has faced the current crisis with strength and maintained a high growth rate during 2025.

He explained that the policies pursued by Qatar before the crisis enabled it to absorb its repercussions so far, confirming that his country will emerge from the crisis only more resilient and capable of adapting to global changes.

He pointed out that his country has contributed to efforts aimed at a ceasefire and opening waterways, noting that Qatar was subjected to an attack on its territory by Iran, in a flagrant violation of its sovereignty.
