Transport and Labor Minister Nidal Katamine discussed on Monday with the Chief Executive of the Advanced Vocational Training College, Ammar Ghraibeh, the requirements of the Aqaba Port Railway Project in terms of technical manpower and professional competencies, along with areas of cooperation among relevant entities to meet these needs.
According to a ministry statement, the meeting held at the Ministry of Transport aimed to align the project's requirements with the vocational and technical education and training system, preparing and qualifying advanced technicians in railway systems, signaling and communications, electrical and automation systems, operations and maintenance, inspection, and trial operation.
The meeting addressed identifying current and future needs for occupations and competencies according to project phases, assessing their availability in the local labor market, and determining priority gaps.
The meeting also discussed developing qualification and upskilling pathways, diploma programs, professional certifications, and apprenticeships tailored to the project's actual needs.
Katamine emphasized the importance of linking training and qualification programs to the needs of major national projects, thereby enhancing employment opportunities for Jordanians and replacing foreign labor in technical and specialized positions.
He stressed the importance of building a sustainable framework to develop the necessary competencies for the operation and maintenance phases, ensuring long-term benefits from the project.
