The National Cybersecurity Center affirmed that cybersecurity awareness constitutes a continuous path aimed at instilling a safe digital culture among various segments of society, in light of the rapid evolution of cyber threats and the renewal of methods of fraud and digital exploitation.
The National Cybersecurity Center told «Alrai» that awareness is no longer limited to delivering information and introducing risks, but is increasingly moving towards transforming knowledge into safe digital behaviors and practices, enhancing the ability of individuals and institutions to deal with digital risks, and contributing to building a safer and more resilient national cyberspace.
It explained that over past years, the center has worked to establish the concept of cyber awareness as an essential part of societal culture, by developing and implementing campaigns, programs, and initiatives targeting various segments of society, using tools and messages tailored to the nature and needs of each group.
It pointed out that the upcoming phase aims to shift awareness from merely conveying information to instilling safe digital behavior, so that safe practices become part of the daily lives of individuals and institutions, and to promote the concept of shared responsibility, leading to a more aware society capable of handling digital risks, and a safer and more resilient national cyberspace.
First line of defence
Regarding the importance of the awareness adopted by the center in enhancing cyber culture within society, the center explained that humans represent one of the most important elements of the national cybersecurity ecosystem, while simultaneously serving as the first line of defence in confronting numerous digital risks.
It added that the development of security solutions and technologies, despite its importance, does not eliminate the role and awareness of the user, as their awareness and ability to distinguish between safe behavior and practices that may endanger them or their institution remain a fundamental factor in reducing the chances of success of attacks and electronic fraud.
It noted that the center focuses on building practical, applicable awareness that is not limited to identifying risks, but helps individuals make correct digital decisions, such as verifying links and sources, protecting login data, activating multi-factor authentication, and handling digital content and accounts safely.
Reaching various segments of society
The center emphasized that reaching various segments of society represents an essential part of the concept of national awareness, given that the digital space has become part of everyone's life, regardless of age, nature of work, or level of technical expertise.
It indicated that the center is keen to ensure that awareness messages are comprehensive, understandable, and applicable, and reach various groups through methods that suit their needs and the nature of their technology usage.
It pointed out that the wider the circle of awareness regarding risks and safe practices, the more capable society becomes of detecting and handling fraud attempts, and the more able it is to protect its data, accounts, and information, which positively reflects on the level of security and cyber resilience at the national level.
National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign
Regarding the National Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign, the center clarified to $ that it comes within the ongoing efforts it leads to entrench the culture of cybersecurity and promote safe digital behavior in society, affirming that it is not a campaign separate from these efforts, but rather an extension of a continuous path of awareness initiatives and programs. It stated that the campaign is distinguished by its broad scope and diverse tools and channels, which enhance its ability to reach different segments of society and transform cyber messages from theoretical information into practices and behaviors that can be applied in daily life. The campaign also contributes, according to the center, to reinforcing the concept that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and that protecting the digital space begins with individual behavior and extends to all institutions and sectors.
Diversity of awareness tools and channels
Regarding the importance of diversifying awareness tools and channels, the center explained that this stems from its awareness of the differences among societal segments in their nature of technology use, and in how they receive information and interact with content.
It stated that effective reach requires diversity in content, style, and channel, as there cannot be a single tool or message that suits everyone, pointing out that awareness tools include digital campaigns and visual content, alongside workshops, interactive activities, and partnerships with various entities. It emphasized that the goal is not only to reach the largest possible number of people, but to reach them with an appropriate, understandable, and applicable message, thereby increasing the chances of turning knowledge into safe and sustainable digital behavior.
Shared responsibility
In this context, the center affirmed that the concept of shared responsibility forms a core axis in its awareness programs and messages, by emphasizing that protecting cyberspace is not the responsibility of a single entity, but rather a shared responsibility that starts with every individual behind the screen and extends to the family, institution, sector, and society as a whole.
It explained that awareness of safe practices not only protects the individual, but also contributes to protecting those around them, indicating that the more an individual acquires correct knowledge and shares it with their surroundings, the more deeply rooted and widespread the culture of cybersecurity becomes.
It pointed out that the center focuses on building a society that does not stop at merely knowing risks, but possesses the ability to take the right action when faced with them, believing that uniting efforts, sharing knowledge, and effective cooperation among various entities are essential elements for building a solid national culture in cybersecurity and enhancing digital hygiene and cyber resilience in society.
