The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will issue its decision at the end of next month regarding the appeal filed by Senegal, which is protesting the withdrawal of the Africa Cup of Nations football title from it and awarding it to Morocco, it announced yesterday.
The court said in a statement that it held a hearing on the case behind closed doors at its headquarters in Lausanne on October 8.
The body specialized in resolving international sports disputes explained that "the members of the arbitration panel have begun their deliberations and are continuing them."
It added, "The CAS arbitrators have decided to issue a full award containing the legal grounds... This process will take several weeks, with the decision expected to be issued at the end of November 2026."
In the final match held on January 18 in Rabat, Senegal won 1-0 thanks to a goal by Pape Gueye in extra time, following a controversial end to regulation time.
A number of Senegal players left the pitch in protest against the awarding of a penalty kick to Morocco in the final minutes, before Brahim Diaz missed it after the match resumed.
However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) annulled the match result in March and awarded Morocco a 3-0 victory and the title.
