Frenchman Bradley Barcola led the English team Liverpool to a big 6-3 victory over their hosts, Austrian side LASK Linz, on Wednesday at the "Raiffeisen Arena," as part of the second round of the Champions League league phase.
Barcola established himself as the star of the match by scoring a hat-trick, leading the English team to its second consecutive victory in the competition and raising its tally to 6 points, tied with the leaders, Spain's Barcelona, but trailing on goal difference, while LASK Linz remained without points in thirty-second place.
Uruguayan Ronald Araujo opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 22nd minute with a header, before Barcola added the second goal two minutes later, capitalizing on a pass from Welshman Lewis Koumas.
The French winger returned to extend his team's lead with the third goal in the 37th minute, after firing a left-footed shot from inside the penalty area following a collaboration with German Florian Wirtz, ending the first half with Liverpool leading 3-0.
At the start of the second half, Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong extended the visitors' lead by scoring the fourth goal in the 51st minute, but the hosts reduced the deficit a minute later through substitute Robert Ljubicic.
In the 66th minute, Barcola completed his personal hat-trick by scoring Liverpool's fifth goal, before Koumas added the sixth in the 72nd minute, ending a special night despite having two other goals disallowed during the match.
LASK Linz refused to give up and managed to score two consecutive goals through substitute Florian Flecker in the 74th and 77th minutes, narrowing the gap to three goals without threatening the English team's victory.
In Rotterdam, Dutch side Feyenoord overturned a deficit against their guests, Italian side Como, to win 3-1 at "De Kuip" stadium, in a match that saw Algerian international Anis Hadj Moussa shine.
Como surprised the hosts by taking the lead in the 18th minute through Senegalese Assane Diao, but Feyenoord's response was quick, as Dutchman Gjivai Zechiël equalized just two minutes later.
In the second half, Hadj Moussa gave the Dutch team the lead in the 52nd minute, capitalizing on his team's advantage in the match, before Como's task became more complicated after their Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez scored an own goal in the 82nd minute.
In stoppage time, Anastasios Douvikas managed to reduce the deficit for Como in the 90+3 minute, but his goal was not enough to change the result of the match, as Feyenoord secured three important points in their European campaign.
