The Aqaba Health Directorate, represented by the Public Health Department, organized an internal awareness day on the occasion of Pink October, with the participation of a number of female employees of the Health Directorate, with the aim of enhancing awareness of the importance of early detection of breast cancer, and encouraging women to take care of their health and undergo periodic examinations.
Director of Aqaba Health, Dr. Saba Al-Shuraida, emphasized the importance of health awareness and education in raising the level of awareness about breast cancer, stressing the need to encourage women not to neglect their health, and to be keen on early detection, due to its important role in increasing the chances of recovery and improving treatment outcomes.
Al-Shuraida added that women represent a fundamental pillar in the family and society, and that maintaining their health reflects positively on their children, family, and surroundings, which calls for intensifying awareness efforts that promote a culture of periodic examination, and help women make sound health decisions, and deal with the disease with awareness and confidence, away from fear and hesitation.
Wafaa Hamati, a breast cancer survivor in Aqaba, reviewed her experience with the disease, talking about the stages of discovering the infection, the treatment journey, and the psychological and human challenges she went through, confirming that will and hope were present in her journey to overcome the disease, based on her desire to continue life alongside her children, and enjoy a beautiful life despite the difficulty of the experience.
Hamati spoke about her experience as a survivor and health educator today who seeks to convey her message to women, and encourage them to take care of themselves and not be afraid of examination or treatment, emphasizing the importance of psychological support and belief in the ability to overcome difficult stages.
For her part, journalist Nouf Al-Wour spoke about her book "Passersby of Life", which she released last Pink October, and includes stories of Jordanian women who went through the experience of breast cancer and overcame it, to become inspiring models of will and steadfastness.
She explained that the idea of the book came in cooperation with the "You Are Life" initiative at the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and the Jordan Breast Cancer Program, by documenting the stories of survivors and turning their experiences into messages of hope and awareness, which motivate women not to neglect their health, face the disease with courage and will, and continue the treatment journey and believe in the possibility of recovery.
She emphasized that the stories of the survivors carry a humanitarian message that awareness, support, and will are important factors in facing the disease, and that sharing real experiences may give other women the strength to start the examination and treatment journey with confidence and hope.
