Dr. Abdul Wahab Al-Hajjaj, Chairman of the Election Committee for the Aqaba Chamber of Commerce elections, said that the number of establishments registered in the Chamber's records is 5919, while the initial number of establishments eligible to vote is 2523, according to the preliminary statistics of the voters' lists.
Al-Hajjaj explained that these numbers come within the initial phase of preparing the voters' lists, which are subject to the legal procedures specified in terms of verification, review, and presentation, before the final lists are approved, on the basis of which the electoral body will be determined.
He pointed out that the electoral process includes all commercial sectors, where the right to vote is calculated according to the sector to which the establishment belongs and according to the legally specified conditions and criteria, noting that the preliminary figures represent a stage in the preparation of the lists, pending the completion of the procedures and the adoption of the final lists.
Al-Hajjaj pointed out that October 14th will witness the presentation of the preliminary voters' lists, while the final lists will be published on October 19th, and the candidacy phase will begin on October 20th, in conjunction with the start of the electoral campaign period.
The electoral process will then continue according to the specified dates, as the preliminary lists of candidates will be presented on October 28th, while November 4th is the final date for paying membership fees to the Chambers of Commerce, and November 20th is the final date for withdrawing from candidacy, and the final lists of candidates will be presented on November 21st.
Al-Hajjaj confirmed that the voting day will be on December 5th, while December 12th is the date for voting in the event that the quorum is not completed, according to the approved electoral schedule.
Commercial circles in Aqaba are looking forward to witnessing more mobilization in the coming phase, especially with the approach of opening the candidacy period, amid expectations of the announcement of electoral blocs and alliances that include representatives of various sectors, to gradually clarify the features of the competition for the Chamber's Board of Directors and seats representing commercial sectors.
The Aqaba Chamber of Commerce represents a main umbrella for the commercial sector in the province, which gives the upcoming elections importance in expressing the priorities of commercial sectors in the future.
