The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) recorded 79 regulatory and technical violations in the natural resources sector in Mafraq Governorate during its field inspection tours, as part of its efforts to regulate mining and quarrying activities and ensure compliance with licensing conditions and legislation governing the exploitation of natural resources.
According to the Commission's response to "Alrai" inquiries, the most prominent violations focused on exceeding the geographical coordinates specified in the granted licenses or delays in completing environmental rehabilitation works for exploited sites, which necessitates taking corrective measures to ensure the safety of operations and preserve the environment and natural resources.
The Commission confirmed that 44 warnings were issued to violating facilities to rectify the recorded imbalances, in addition to implementing 5 precautionary administrative closure measures, in coordination with the competent authorities and security services, with the aim of enforcing legislation, curbing violations, and ensuring public safety.
In a related context, the Commission continues its regulatory and oversight work on activities for exploiting mines, quarries, and mineral ores in the governorate, as it oversees 24 active mining rights. It also granted two exploration licenses and 36 quarry licenses from the beginning of 2025 until the end of last August, in addition to two land reclamation permits, contributing to the regulation of investment activities in the natural resources sector.
The Commission's inspection teams carried out more than 212 inspection and field follow-up tours in various areas of the governorate to verify that facilities have obtained the necessary licenses and permits, and to assess their compliance with specified work scopes, licensing conditions, and technical and environmental requirements.
