Yarmouk Water Company, in coordination with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, the Water Authority, and donor and funding agencies, is proceeding with the implementation and monitoring of a number of projects and programs aimed at developing water services in Mafraq Governorate and the northern Badia, upgrading distribution networks and transmission lines, and improving the sustainability of water supply to citizens.
In response to inquiries by Alrai, the company said that the current phase focuses mainly on rehabilitating and improving water networks, developing transmission lines, reducing loss rates, and improving measurement and distribution operations, in addition to enhancing operational efficiency, maintenance, and rapid response to failures.
It explained that the projects listed in Mafraq Governorate include work to improve and rehabilitate water networks with different diameters in the Safawi area, as well as rehabilitating networks in the areas of Deir Al-Kahf district, and rehabilitating and extending water lines and transmission lines in several areas, in addition to maintenance and extension work of water networks in the Qasbah and Gharbia areas.
It pointed out that the work programs also include improving network operations and reducing leaks, developing transmission lines in Safawi, in addition to developing the infrastructure and systems associated with water services, and improving measurement, meter reading, and billing operations, which contributes to improving the efficiency of managing available water resources and reducing waste.
The company emphasized that rehabilitating and updating water networks is one of the main axes for improving the supply level in Mafraq Governorate, given its large geographical area and the remoteness of population centers, in addition to the existence of areas located at the ends of the networks that face challenges related to pressure and the amount of water reaching them.
It pointed out that addressing the reality of the networks does not depend solely on construction projects, but is accompanied by operational and technical procedures that include detecting and treating fractures and leaks, improving pressure management, increasing the efficiency of meters and readings, monitoring transmission lines, and enhancing maintenance and inspection work.
Yarmouk Water stressed that reducing water waste is a top priority in the coming phase, explaining that the goal is to achieve the maximum possible benefit from every cubic meter of available water and to direct the savings resulting from reducing waste towards improving the supply level for subscribers.
It pointed out that addressing waste requires working on more than one axis, including technical waste resulting from fractures, leaks, and the condition of the networks, administrative waste related to meters, measurement, and readings, in addition to combating encroachments and illegal uses of water.
Regarding enhancing water sources and drilling new wells, the company explained that determining the locations of wells and the safe pumping quantities from them is subject to technical, hydrogeological studies, and plans and decisions approved by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Water Authority.
It added that the company's role, within the scope of its responsibilities, focuses on improving the efficiency of managing and operating available sources and quantities, improving transportation and distribution operations, reducing waste, improving the efficiency of networks and transmission lines, and raising the technical and operational needs of the competent authorities according to the demand and supply situation in the governorate.
In the wastewater sector, the company said it continues to operate and maintain networks and facilities within its responsibility in Mafraq Governorate, responding to failures and operational observations, noting that the listed projects include maintenance work for wastewater networks in the Qasbah and Gharbia areas.
It explained that expansion projects and the creation of new wastewater infrastructure are implemented according to the plans, priorities, and funding approved by the competent authorities in the Ministry of Water and Irrigation and the Water Authority, while the company undertakes its operational and technical tasks within the scope of its responsibilities.
The company said that the current and planned projects in Mafraq Governorate are distributed between centralized and decentralized projects and programs supported by donor and funding agencies, with priorities focused on developing water networks and transmission lines, reducing waste, improving measurement and distribution, addressing bottlenecks and areas facing operational challenges, in addition to continuing the maintenance of water and wastewater networks.
It pointed out that these priorities include areas in Qasbah and the northern Badia, including Safawi, Deir Al-Kahf, and Gharbia, in addition to other areas that are being addressed according to technical and operational needs, the condition of the networks, and the impact of projects on the level of service.
Regarding financial dues on subscribers, the company explained that it follows up on financial accounts according to the systems, instructions, and legislation in force, and takes the approved administrative and legal procedures for collection, preserving the rights of the company and the public money.
