The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) confirmed on Friday to Agence France-Presse that the venue for the 2030 World Cup final will be decided «in due course», in response to statements by the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, in which he asserted that it would be held in Morocco.
Both Spain and Morocco, partners in organizing the 2030 edition alongside Portugal, are competing for the honor of hosting the final match. Madrid is betting on the legacy of the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, home of Real Madrid, while Rabat is relying on the project of building a new stadium with a capacity of about 115 thousand spectators in Benslimane on the outskirts of the economic capital, Casablanca.
In this context, Lekjaa affirmed on Wednesday that this global event will take place in his country, saying during a public meeting organized in the same region, according to a video clip published by local media including the weekly «TelQuel»: «The province of Benslimane will host the World Cup final, whether people like it or not».
However, the international body confirmed in response to a question by Agence France-Presse on Friday that no decision has been made yet.
A spokesperson for the global football body said: «As announced on August 5, 2026, FIFA will make its decision in due course».
