The federation explained in a statement that the non-professional section of the Disciplinary Board decided on Friday to open disciplinary proceedings to verify whether the events reported on October 7 constitute violations requiring accountability.
It added that the decision included imposing a non-automatic precautionary suspension on the player, following the automatic precautionary suspension that had been in effect until the start of the new proceedings.
On Saturday, the federation referred the case to the disciplinary investigation committee, affirming that the proceedings will remain confidential until the investigation is concluded.
This development comes in the wake of Ronaldo leaving the national team camp, amid reports of a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus.
The federation has not yet announced any final penalty against the Portuguese star, stressing that the current suspension is a precautionary measure until the investigation is completed and the case is resolved.
