Ronaldo suspended for 30 days for leaving Portugal camp following a dispute with coach Jesus

The Portuguese Football Federation decided on Monday to suspend Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days after he left the national team's camp following a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus regarding his role in the team.

The federation's disciplinary board stated that it upheld the accusation against the 41-year-old striker and imposed a fine of 255 euros ($285.83).

Ronaldo left the Portugal team's residence in Copenhagen before their match against Denmark in the Nations League earlier this month, after accusing Jesus twice of failing to keep his promise regarding his role in the team, following his stay on the bench without participating against Norway.

Jesus denied making any agreement with Ronaldo but kept the door open for his return after Portugal's 2-1 victory.

The non-professional affairs division of the disciplinary board concluded that Ronaldo intentionally committed a violation under Article 160 (1) of the federation's disciplinary regulations.

The investigation was opened on October 9 regarding incidents reported two days earlier.

The statement did not clarify which matches or activities the suspension would cover, or whether the time he has already spent under temporary suspension would be counted toward the 30-day penalty.

Ronaldo later apologized for not greeting the fans after the Norway match and for leaving the team squad, confirming that he would remain available for selection after serving any penalty resulting from the incident.

President of the Portuguese Football Federation, Pedro Proença, said that everyone within the federation wishes for Ronaldo's return to the national team once this matter is resolved.
