Trump: Settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian war is closer than ever

US President Donald Trump said that a settlement to the Russian-Ukrainian war is now "closer than ever."

This came in remarks made by Trump to reporters on Wednesday during a roundtable meeting he held at the White House, in which he addressed a number of current issues.

He explained that his administration continues to work to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, and that communications with Moscow have intensified recently, expressing his optimism about reaching a result soon.

Trump said: "I spoke a few days ago with my Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin regarding a settlement to the war in Ukraine, and I believe we are getting closer to reaching a solution, and perhaps we are now closer to it than ever before."

Trump had previously indicated in earlier remarks that Moscow is more willing than Kyiv to reach an agreement.

In another context, Trump expressed his "great satisfaction" that Russia and China did not intervene in the war with Iran, noting that Moscow, in particular, did not intervene despite having the capability to do so.
