Terrorism does not distinguish between one Jordanian and another based on religion, affiliation, or region, but rather targets Jordan and all Jordanians, Muslims and Christians, civilians and military personnel, institutions and individuals. This is revealed by the stations of confrontation in which the homeland offered convoys of martyrs in defense of the lives and security of citizens, from the martyr pilot Muath Al-Kasasbeh, Major Rashid Al-Zyoud, Lieutenant Colonel Saed Al-Maaytah, and Brigadier General Abdul Razzaq Al-Dalabeeh, and many others among the gallant men of the Armed Forces, Public Security, and security services.
These facts converge on one truth: that terrorism, whether it targets a church, a military site, a security headquarters, or citizens in their cities, stems from an extremist approach that seeks to weaken the state, confuse society, and impose fear on people's lives. Meanwhile, targeting houses of worship carries an additional significance related to the attempt to undermine freedom of belief and national coexistence, and to stir up religious and social sensitivities that serve the goals of extremists. However, the record of victims and the nature of the attacks confirm that the danger affects the entire Jordanian society, and that the unity and cohesion of Jordanians represent the first line of defense in confronting these crimes.
Hence the question arises: Why Jordan? The answer is linked to the Kingdom's location in a turbulent region, its approach based on moderation, dialogue, and political solutions, its refusal to be an arena for settling regional scores or a launchpad for aggression against other countries, its adherence to protecting its sovereignty, security, and stability, its rejection of terrorism and extremism, and its commitment to the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and the protection of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem within the framework of the Hashemite Custodianship. These constants necessitate dealing with security threats with an awareness that combines firmness in confronting terrorism with wisdom in addressing the region's crises.
Confronting this danger requires continuing to raise security readiness, pursuing extremist cells, uncovering the motives of the perpetrators and their connections based on evidence and investigations, and strengthening security coordination, in addition to confronting hate speech and rumors and consolidating the culture of citizenship. Protecting society is an integrated responsibility shared by security services, educational, religious, and media institutions, through enhancing awareness, immunizing generations against extremist ideology, and protecting the public sphere from incitement and misinformation.
Jordan has faced terrorism on its borders, in its cities, and in its camps, and has offered martyrs from among its sons as they defended all Jordanians, without distinction of religion or affiliation. Jordan will remain committed to its national constants and its moderate approach, while the unity of Jordanians and their rallying around their state and its institutions remain the most important pillar in confronting terrorism and every attempt to undermine the security and stability of the Kingdom.
