The Public Security Directorate Warns Against Facilitating the Sale of Helium Gas for Smuggling Narcotics Using Balloons

The Anti-Narcotics Department at the Public Security Directorate warned traders and importers of helium gas against selling it for use in smuggling narcotics via balloons. Several cases were monitored involving traders who facilitated the sale of this gas for smuggling purposes. They were arrested along with the smugglers who dealt with them and took possession of the gas from them. Legal procedures were taken against them and they were referred to the State Security Court.

The Anti-Narcotics Department urged traders and importers of helium gas and those working in this field, to avoid legal accountability, to follow legal procedures and document sales transactions, and not to deal with any smugglers or suspicious individuals and not to facilitate their access to gas or any materials or supplies that could be used in drug smuggling operations.

The department confirmed that, in cooperation with the Jordanian Armed Forces and security agencies, it continues to monitor and track the new methods used by drug smugglers in an attempt to smuggle and transport them, including the use of helium-filled balloons in smuggling operations, and will not tolerate any transgression that facilitates the smuggling of poisons and their spread among community members or their transfer to neighboring countries.
