The King and Queen participate in the funeral ceremony of King Harald V in Oslo

His Majesty King Abdullah II and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah participated in the funeral ceremony of His Majesty King Harald V in Oslo.

Harald, a reformist king who sat on the throne for more than three decades succeeding his beloved father, passed away at a time when the Norwegian royal family is witnessing multiple crises.

The funeral procession will set off on foot from the Royal Palace to Oslo Cathedral at 12:00 local time (10:00 GMT), followed an hour later by a religious ceremony at the church, which will begin with a nationwide minute of silence.

Among those expected to attend the funeral are Prince William and Princess Anne from Britain, Japanese Crown Prince Akishino and Crown Princess Kiko, King Felipe, Queen Letizia, and Queen Sofia from Spain, the Swedish royal family, and King Frederik and Queen Mary from Denmark.

Leaders of countries from around the world have also been invited.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit (53) is expected to attend the ceremony, but she will travel by car accompanied by Queen Sonja, Harald's 89-year-old widow, who is still recovering from a lung transplant she underwent in June.
