The Houthis: The New Central Danger

The criminal attack on King Khalid Airport in Riyadh carries a message that goes beyond Saudi Arabia; targeting a civilian facility of this size means that the Houthis are ready to widen the circle of escalation, and that the entire region may be within the circle of targeting, not just the Kingdom alone. Reports in Reuters have confirmed the militia's intention to escalate attacks on Riyadh and threats to navigation in the Red Sea.

While the rest of Iran's arms appear to be relatively under control or preoccupied with their own pressures to varying degrees, the Houthi front remains a dangerous exception, given its geographical location and its ability to threaten Gulf security and international trade alike.

The Houthi militia has become a central danger that parallels the threat of Iran itself; in fact, this danger has turned into a complex regional situation, increasing the security burden on the countries of the region and trying to drag them into a war of attrition while it takes refuge among civilians and terrain in Yemen.

Therefore, the Arab system is required to take urgent action, real defensive and intelligence coordination, and to abandon internal differences. It is not enough to rely on Washington, which manages its crises according to its interests first; and it is also behind the ocean and is not significantly affected by the energy crisis as is the case with the countries of the region and the rest of the world.

Jordan, through two telegrams sent by His Majesty King Abdullah to King Salman and his Crown Prince, confirmed Jordan's support for any measures taken by Saudi Arabia against the Houthis. This shows the Jordanian state's awareness of the seriousness of the situation and its expected outcomes. The Jordanian leadership realizes that there is no alternative to Arab self-reliance to end the crises that have disrupted the wheel of development and prosperity and have given excuses to Israel and others to implement catastrophic plans.
