The European Union announced on Thursday the postponement of the second summit between the bloc and the Gulf Cooperation Council, which was scheduled to be held in Riyadh on October 24, with a new date to be announced in due course.
Two informed sources confirmed to Reuters that the European Union and the Gulf states agreed to the postponement, after Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said earlier on Thursday that he understood the meeting would be cancelled due to security concerns.
Security developments in Saudi Arabia have led to the postponement or cancellation of a number of events and activities, including art and film festivals, while organizers of the "Future Investment Initiative" forum moved to explore a format combining in-person attendance and virtual participation, and the Saudi Professional League postponed three matches in the ninth round for logistical reasons.
