The Asian Football Confederation announced yesterday the postponement of the match between Saudi Arabia's Al-Nasr and the UAE's Al-Wasl, which was scheduled for today in Riyadh as part of the third round of the unified group stage of the AFC Champions League Elite.
The continental body said in a brief statement on its official website: "It has been decided to reschedule the league stage match (West region) within the 2026-2027 AFC Champions League Elite between Saudi club Al-Nasr and UAE club Al-Wasl, which was scheduled to be held (today) at King Saud University Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to a later date."
The statement added, "The new date and kickoff time for the match will be confirmed and announced in due course."
While no official stance has been issued yet by the two clubs explaining the reasons, press reports indicated that Al-Wasl club was unable to reach Riyadh Airport, as the UAE newspaper "Al-Bayan" stated that "the team's delegation was scheduled to depart for Riyadh on Saturday, but the lack of flights between Dubai and Riyadh prevented the team from traveling according to the scheduled program."
Saudi Arabia is exposed to almost daily attacks carried out by the Houthis using missiles and drones targeting airports, energy facilities, and military installations.
Last week, the Saudi Pro League postponed three matches from the ninth round for reasons it described as "logistic," amid escalating Houthi attacks originating from Yemen.
