Swimmers Al-Worr and Mehyar prepare for the Youth Olympics

National swimming team players Michael Al-Worr and Serena Mehyar are preparing to participate in the Youth Olympic Games, hosted by the Senegalese capital, Dakar, from October 31 to November 13 next.

Swimmer Mehyar will kick off the Jordanian participation in the Games on November 1st by competing in the women's 400m freestyle swimming event, while Al-Worr will compete in the men's 200m freestyle swimming event on the 6th of the same month.

This participation represents an important milestone in the players' athletic careers and an opportunity to gain more experience by competing with elite young swimmers from around the world, contributing to the development of their technical levels and enhancing their readiness for upcoming commitments.

National team coach Mohammed Al-Radaideh emphasized the importance of the players' participation in this Olympic event, pointing out that competing in a tournament of this level constitutes a valuable opportunity for international exposure and gaining experience in handling the atmosphere of major championships.

Al-Radaideh said: Participating in the Youth Olympic Games is an important step in Michael and Serena's athletic careers, given the opportunity it provides to compete with swimmers of advanced technical levels and to learn about the nature of competition in major international arenas, which will positively reflect on their technical and mental development during the coming phase.

He added: We look forward to the players presenting their best during the races and benefiting from this experience to gain more confidence and experience, especially since international exposure is one of the most important factors for developing the level of young swimmers and preparing them for future participations.

Al-Haddadin represents triathlon

For her part, national triathlon team player Maria Al-Haddadin is preparing to participate in the fourth edition of the Games, after being selected following the Asian Youth Games held last year in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Al-Haddadin looks forward to benefiting from this experience and presenting a distinct level in her anticipated Olympic participation, while continuing her preparations to participate in the Games under the supervision of national team coach Elias Noureddine, through a training program focused on raising her physical and technical readiness in the three sports included in triathlon competitions: swimming, cycling, and running.

Noureddine emphasized the importance of Al-Haddadin's participation in the Youth Olympics, pointing out that the past period witnessed a focus on developing her capabilities in the three sports, alongside working on improving her endurance and transition between race stages, which helps her reach the required readiness before the start of the competitions.

He continued: During the past period, we focused on preparing Maria from various physical and technical aspects, especially developing her level in swimming, cycling, and running, and working to raise her efficiency in dealing with race requirements. We look forward to her benefiting from this important participation in her athletic career, especially since she will compete with a group of the best young female athletes worldwide.

Al-Haddadin is scheduled to compete in the triathlon on Friday, November 6, where the race consists of three consecutive stages, starting with a 750-meter open water swim in a single lap, followed by a 20-kilometer cycling event distributed over three laps, before concluding the race with a 5-kilometer run distributed over three laps.
