The official spokesman for the Coalition Forces announced the interception and destruction of a ballistic missile launched by the Houthi militia towards the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Wednesday, while Agence France-Presse reported hearing loud explosions in the city and that authorities sent a warning via mobile phones cautioning of an "aerial threat."
The warning received by residents in Riyadh stated: "The region is being subjected to a hostile aerial threat. Please act calmly and stay at home or in a safe place away from windows and doors, and continue to follow Civil Defense instructions," before it was lifted minutes later.
The Houthi militia group said on Wednesday that it had targeted facilities belonging to the Saudi company Aramco in Dhahran, King Khalid International Airport, and an Aramco refinery in Riyadh, amid escalating hostilities between the Iran-aligned group and the Kingdom.
The militia stated that its operations targeting airports and oil facilities will continue over the coming days.
The official Saudi Press Agency reported, late Tuesday into Thursday, citing the Civil Defense spokesman, that four people were injured, including two women, a man, and a child, and 15 homes sustained limited damage following the fall of debris from two missiles that were intercepted over Riyadh.
The spokesman said that the Houthi militia launched the two missiles, and that air defenses intercepted and destroyed them.
