The Saudi Ministry of Energy announced on Thursday the handover of the hosting of the 26th edition of the World Petroleum Congress, scheduled for 2028, to Kazakhstan.
This came at the conclusion of the 25th edition of the conference, which was hosted by the Saudi capital, Riyadh, for the first time in the Kingdom's history.
In a statement via its account on the American platform "X", the Saudi ministry said that "the hosting of the next edition of the World Petroleum Congress has been handed over to Kazakhstan, as part of the activities of the edition hosted by Riyadh," without providing further details.
The 25th edition of the conference kicked off in Riyadh on October 11 under the theme "Pathways to an Energy Future for All," and concluded on Thursday.
According to previous information published by the Saudi Press Agency, the Kingdom hosted the conference for the first time since its inaugural edition in the British capital, London, in 1933.
The Kazakh capital, Astana, is scheduled to host the 26th edition of the conference in 2028, following its selection in June 2024 as the venue for the event, according to information previously reported by Kazakh media.
This will be the first time the conference is held in a Central Asian country, and the Astana edition will be the first to take place two years after the previous one, whereas the conference was previously organized every three years.
The World Petroleum Council, established in 1933, is the organizer of the conference and serves as a platform to discuss issues and challenges facing the oil and gas sectors with the participation of stakeholders from around the world.
